На подходе Т-100: на Западе считают, что обновленный «летающий» Т-80 может стать лучшим российским танком

The Military Watch Magazine recalled the development of a new version of the T-80 in Russia

Western military experts and analysts are closely monitoring the development of heavy equipment in Russia. The American publication The Military Watch Magazine reported that the Omsktransmash tank plant will resume production of the "flying" T-80, creating a new generation tank based on it.

Since the late 1980s, the Omsk plant has been implementing an ambitious program to turn the T-80 into a next-generation tank, conceptually similar to the T-14 (in small-scale production at Uralvagonzavod), with a crew housed in an armored capsule and an unmanned turret

But after 1991, the developments were shelved. American journalists did not rule out that the updated T-80 would use the developments of Omsk engineers. Consequently, they suggested, the new version of the tank would be very different from its predecessor. The editors of The Military Watch Magazine suggested that the tank would also receive a new name — T-100.

There will be approximately a 30-year gap between the release of the T-80 and the new tanks. Obviously, the combat vehicle will receive improved characteristics compared to the T-72B and the basic T-90
