Russia has nullified the US missile defense system (ABM) when it developed and put into service the advanced Avangard missile system, President Vladimir Putin said.
He stressed that the United States has invested billions of dollars in creating its missile defense system. At the same time, the development of the Avangard cost Russia many times less. The newest missile system has no competitors in Western countries.

Technical characteristics of the Avangard complex
The Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle is launched by an UR-100N UTTH/RS-28 intercontinental ballistic missile. It flies in the atmosphere at a speed of about 32 thousand km/h. No existing missile defense system is able to intercept the unit.
The complex was put into service in 2019. The Ministry of Defense announced the ongoing rearmament of units of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces with Avangards.
The Daily Express wrote that the Avangard could hit targets anywhere on the globe in just half an hour. In the West, such a threat was called "chilling".
