Полигон для испытаний беспилотников заработает на берегу реки Томь

A basic drone operation center will appear in Tomsk in the spring of 2024

Scientists from the Tomsk University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR), together with the Kobzev School of Electronic Instrument Engineering and Communication Systems, and ROBS LLC, have manufactured a basic drone operation center (BOC). The complex will be installed in April 2024 on the right bank of the Tom River, and the first tests will begin here in the summer.

The BOC will test drones for delivering cargo up to 50 kg, aerial photography, and agricultural needs.

The project aims to create a ground infrastructure for organizing drone air traffic. There are no such solutions yet

What is the BOC?

The BOC is a two-story complex. The first floor is equipped with a place for storing and servicing UAVs, refueling, and replacing batteries. The second floor houses a control center with a pilot's workplace.

The complex can operate year-round. The ground station provides communication between the operator and the drone at a distance of up to 30 km.

Experts plan to test different drone flight scenarios:

  • when the drone is controlled by a pilot from the laboratory
  • when the drone is controlled by an operator from the BOC
  • when control of the UAV during the flight is transferred from the laboratory to the BOC

Currently, the experiment participants are writing flight programs for drones and practicing controlling them on a simulator.
