KamAZ plans to increase the production of unmanned trucks. It is expected that by September 2024, the plant will produce 12 more unmanned vehicles for transporting goods along the M-11 highway, according to a source close to the Ministry of Transport of Russia.
Currently, 6 unmanned KamAZ vehicles and 3 from Sberavtotech operate on the M-11 highway. By the end of 2024, their number will increase to 43.
In the summer of 2023, the "Unmanned Logistics Corridors" project was launched in Russia, within the framework of which the delivery of goods from St. Petersburg to Moscow was established.
Characteristics of the KamAZ unmanned vehicle:
- created on the basis of the KAMAZ-54901 tractor
- has navigation and communication systems
- technical vision technologies
- using the electronic CAN bus (Controller Area Network - an electronic device inside the car that collects the actions of various sensors and processors into one system - editor's note), the brake and steering system, engine and automatic transmission are controlled
Trucks operate 24/7 according to the hub-to-hub concept, without entering the city. The length of the route from St. Petersburg to Moscow is 650 km.
Trucks only stop for loading, refueling and maintenance. Their work is monitored by operators.
Earlier, KamAZ announced the development of an unmanned all-weather mining dump truck.
