The newest Russian BTR-22, developed by the "Military-Industrial Company", is undergoing testing. The armored personnel carrier was officially presented to the public in the summer of 2023 at the "Army" forum in Kubinka, near Moscow.
The main structural difference between the BTR-22 and the basic BTR-82A is the location of the compartments. For example, the power compartment is located in the front of the hull on the right, and the driver's seat is on the left. The troop compartment is located in the rear. Embarkation and disembarkation of military personnel takes place through the rear of the BTR.
The developers also increased the protection of the armored hull of the vehicle. It can withstand the impact of B-32 armor-piercing bullets of 12.7x108mm caliber. In addition, the BTR-22 has become more mobile, its speed on the highway is 100 km/h.
It was previously reported that the BTR-D on a tracked base began to be equipped with 2B9 "Vasilek" mortars.
