Russian Railways has received the first new mainline freight electric locomotive with a domestic asynchronous traction drive, the 3ES8 "Malakhit", from the Ural Locomotives plant.
In total, there will be fifty such electric locomotives with domestic components in the first batch of the order. To work with them, Russian Railways locomotive crews underwent advanced training at the manufacturing plant.
"Malakhit" is considered a flagship in its category.
...The carrying capacity of "Malakhit" is 42% higher than that of previous generation locomotives. It can haul trains weighing over 7 thousand tons and up to 1 km long in mountainous terrain and difficult climates. The electric locomotive will become the basic platform for a line of promising traction rolling stock produced at Ural Locomotives
In addition, the Ural "Malakhit" has built-in software with self-learning and automatic train control functions.
