AvtoVAZ has shared plans to launch a six-speed manual gearbox on its Lada car lineup. The new transmission will be installed on Lada by the end of 2024.
According to the manufacturer, one of the first models with such a novelty will be the flagship LADA Vesta NG, which has been produced again since March of this year. The six-speed manual transmission will be paired with a new 1.8 EVO engine with 122 horsepower.
Currently, all new LADA cars are equipped with only a five-speed manual transmission. However, AvtoVAZ announced in the fall its intention to start producing Lada Vesta with an automatic transmission at the turn of 2023-2024.
AvtoVAZ is also thinking about an automatic transmission for Lada Granta, but the exact timing of the introduction of this innovation under the hood is unknown. But private companies in Russia have already begun to provide services for converting gearboxes. For example, the Ural company "AKPP-EKB" installs classic Japanese automatic transmissions on Lada Granta.
