Test pilots performed an automatic landing of the MC-21 before certification flights

The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) reported that pilots Oleg Mutovitin and Andrey Voropaev performed the first automatic landing (Category IIIA ICAO) during MC-21 tests.

This category implies that the visibility range of the runway is at least 200 m, and the height at which the pilot decides to land is less than 30 m. An aircraft applying for Category IIIA must provide automatic landing up to the moment of touching the runway.

The UAC press service clarified that this flight opened the program of factory tests of the automatic landing system. After it, certification flights will be carried out. It is specified that all software and control system that provides landing in automatic mode were developed by Russian specialists. It is known that next year the testing of this system will continue on a fully import-substituted aircraft.

Earlier it was reported that the government plans to increase funding for the construction of MC-21 aircraft in 2024-2026. UAC will also receive additional funds for civil aircraft construction.
