The Russian technology company "Yandex" has announced plans to double the number of robot couriers by 2024. Currently, there are 130 of them.
In addition, "Yandex" intends to lease robots to other companies for the delivery of goods over a distance of up to 2 km. The developer undertakes the production, warranty service and technical support of autonomous devices, and will also provide accurate maps for navigation.
Where Robot Couriers Will Appear
Negotiations are currently underway to lease delivery robots to chain retailers and catering outlets. "Yandex" believes that 15 such couriers are sufficient to ensure the delivery of goods in an area with 5,000 residents.
It is expected that by 2025 the cost of delivery will decrease to the average market price. To do this, it is necessary to load the rollers with orders for 80% of their current capabilities, which is up to 15 orders per day.
Difficulties with Weather Conditions
In recent days, many videos have appeared online of delivery robots stuck in the snow. Against the background of worsening weather, "Yandex" has distributed instructions that will be useful to those who want to free smart technology from snow captivity.
Passersby are advised to make sure that the wheels are not blocked. If the snow prevents the autonomous device from moving further, you need to wait until they are unlocked. After that, the roller can be gently pushed so that it can drive.
The company's press service noted that delivery robots hit the road in October. In the fall, there were no problems with their work due to favorable weather conditions.
Earlier it was reported that "Yandex" created two robots to work in the warehouses of large marketplaces. The equipment works at any temperature several times faster than a human.
