The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) has handed over the military transport aircraft Il-76MD-90A, assembled at the Ulyanovsk Aviazavod, to the Russian Aerospace Forces.
The Il-76MD-90A is an upgraded version of the Il-76MD and is made up of Russian-made components. The aircraft is intended for the transportation of paratroopers, military equipment, and heavy cargo.
According to Sergei Sheremetov, director of the Il branch - Aviastar, Il-76MD-90A replenished the air regiment of military transport aviation (VTA). The Ulyanovsk plant fulfills obligations for the construction of aircraft within the program for 2023. Sheremetov reminded that the need to increase the park of military transport aircraft was previously spoken by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
According to the publication "Technosphere Russia", UAC has already handed over the third Il-76MD-90A in 2023. It is emphasized that similar transport aircraft are in high demand for the Airborne Forces. They solve the problems of operational troop transport and light equipment. After the upgrade, the Il-76MD-90A received a new engine, an improved wing, a "glass cabin". The engineers increased its load capacity.
"Technosphere Russia" also reported that one of the SSJ-100 aircraft of the "Russia" airline received a special livery. The aircraft RA-89171, named after the city of Kaluga, became the owner of a distinctive mark in the form of a golden deer, the original figurine of which is kept in the Hermitage.
A branch of the Hermitage is planned to be opened in Kaluga in 2024. The special livery of the aircraft became the embodiment of the unity of progress, history and art.
