The fleet of Russian military transport aircraft will be supplemented by the new Il-212 with turbojet engines, which will replace the An-26 and An-72. This was reported by an informed source to RIA Novosti. According to the agency's source, it is a modification of the Il-112V.
It is noted that the aircraft will be "significantly redesigned." The Il-212 will retain the fuselage, onboard equipment, and avionics from its predecessor.
Instead of the TV-117S turboprops, the new aircraft will receive Russian-made PD-8 turbojet engines. In addition, it will be equipped with updated landing gear and a new fuel and hydraulic system.
Aircraft manufacturers are still discussing parameters such as flight range, payload, and aircraft dimensions. However, with the installation of a more powerful engine, its payload is expected to increase.
Information about the upcoming modification of the Il-112V appeared in the summer of 2023 at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. It was confirmed by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, Denis Manturov. According to the minister, the changes were to affect the design of the aircraft's wing, as well as its engine. The head of the department did not provide other details.
