Russian "Flying Train" to be Launched in Leningrad Region

Russian engineers have developed a "flying train" for the Leningrad Region

Engineers at JSC "Corporation "MIT" (part of Roscosmos) have developed a track project with a magnetic levitation train (moves and is controlled by electromagnetic force, that is, it actually flies over the tracks - editor's note www1.ru) as part of an agreement with the government of the Leningrad Region. We are talking about a passenger monorail transport system for the "Devyatkino" metro line - "Mega-Parnas" shopping center.

It is noted that the company created a working full-size model of the train in 2021. The results of the running tests, which were carried out a year later, confirmed the calculations of the engineers.

In August 2022, the general designer of JSC "Corporation "MIT", Yuri Solomonov, announced that the monorail transport system is planned to be launched in 2025. He also noted that the magnetic levitation train will be able to run in unmanned mode.

A magnetic levitation train, maglev (from English magnetic levitation - magnetic levitation, editor's note www1.ru) does not touch the surface of the rail during movement. There is a gap between the train and the tracks, which eliminates friction. Braking in such systems is carried out due to aerodynamic drag.

Earlier it was reported that the capital's monorail will receive a magnetic cushion and become unmanned.
