Rostec announced the delivery of an upgraded A-50U aircraft to the Russian Aerospace Forces. Russia has very few of these aircraft (there were three as of 2022), and now there is one more.
The A-50U is an airborne early warning and control aircraft that can simultaneously track a larger number of targets and guided fighters. The updated version has a reduced weight, which has increased the flight range and time in the air. Other innovations include more modern electronics with greater speed, improved software, new screens with larger dimensions and resolutions, and improved ergonomics. The modernized A-50U also received a new flight and navigation system.
The Vega concern (part of the Roselectronica holding of Rostec) and TANTK named after G.M. Beriev (part of the United Aircraft Corporation of Rostec) worked on the modernized A-50U.
