The founder and main shareholder of Kaliningrad's Avtotor, Vladimir Shcherbakov, has announced ambitious plans to expand the range of models produced at the plant. While Avtotor currently produces 10 car models (including commercial vehicles), their number will increase to 15 by the end of this year.
We must set up assembly of 15 models this year; so far, we have only set up 10 (including commercial vehicles). Next year, we must increase the number of models to at least 25 in order to be present in almost all segments of the market.
It would seem that spreading resources across such a large number of models in the current difficult situation is hardly justified. But Vladimir Shcherbakov has an explanation for why this is necessary. According to him, the market almost never declines simultaneously in all niches. For example, if sales of budget cars decline, then sales of expensive cars increase, and vice versa. And a large model range allows balancing these waves of rising and falling demand.
As a reminder, Avtotor currently produces passenger cars of the brands Kaiyi, BAIC, and SWM, as well as Brock electric trucks.
