A source in the shipbuilding industry told TASS about the planned physical start-up of two reactors of the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov". According to the source, in November 2023, after repair and modernization at the "Sevmash" enterprise (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation), the cruiser will be able to begin comprehensive testing of the reactors in various modes of operation. This process involves reaching a certain power level of the reactors, followed by an assessment of the functioning of the entire nuclear power system. Earlier, the General Director of "Sevmash", Mikhail Budnichenko, reported plans to put the cruiser on sea trials in May next year.
The cost of repairing and modernizing the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" of Project 1144.2 "Orlan" of the Northern Fleet has already exceeded 200 billion rubles. Information about the costs was provided by a source close to the Russian Navy (VMF). Representatives of "Sevmash" reported that after being transferred to the fleet, "Admiral Nakhimov" will remain in service for at least 30 years.
The heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" has been undergoing repair and modernization since 1999 at the "Sevmash" enterprise in Severodvinsk. Actual work began in 2013. One of the main results of the modernization is a noticeable strengthening of the ship's combat power. According to information from open sources, the cruiser will be equipped with ten universal shipborne firing complexes, each of which will be able to carry eight Kalibr-NK or Onyx cruise missiles. "Admiral Nakhimov" is one of the two ships of Project 1144 "Orlan" that will remain in service with the Russian Navy. There is no precise information yet about the fate of the second ship, the flagship of the Northern Fleet, the TARK "Peter the Great": according to some sources, it is planned to be decommissioned after the return of "Admiral Nakhimov" to service, while other sources claim that "Peter the Great" will continue its service.
Yesterday, a solemn ceremony of acceptance of the newest corvette "Rezkiy" of Project 20380 into the ship's composition of the Russian Navy took place in Vladivostok. The ship was built at the Amur Shipbuilding Plant, which is also part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation.
