Forbes, citing Fighterbomber, reported the appearance in Russia of a large glide bomb FAB-1500M-54. The name of the munition encodes its mass – it is 1500 kg. The bomb is equipped with retractable wings and a universal glide and correction module with satellite guidance.
FAB-1500M-54 significantly exceeds the American Joint Direct Attack Munitions-Extended Range (JDAM-ER), which weighs only 227 kg. FAB-1500M-54 is claimed to have an accuracy of 5 meters, however, the independent organization Conflict Intelligence Team believes these data are greatly exaggerated, since the FAB-1500M-54 guidance system uses the GLONASS system, and not the more advanced GPS.
The new bomb turned out to be so large that the Su-34 can carry only two munitions at a time. In addition, in order for the FAB-1500M-54 to reach a maximum range of 40 km, additional tuning of the Su-34 may be required.
