If someone has long wanted to become an astronaut, now such an opportunity has emerged: Roscosmos has announced a new open selection for the astronaut squad.
Any Russian citizen can participate in the competition, the main thing — is to meet the key requirements. This is already the fourth open selection in the squad. In 2012, eight astronaut candidates were selected, in 2018 year - eight, in 2021 - four. There are currently 26 people in the squad. Applications and documents are accepted until October 30, 2023.
The astronaut squad is a certain living organism. People leave, drop out, move on to another job, some have other duties. That's why the squad is replenished with such sets. Speaking about the number of applicants accepted into the squad, I think it depends on the qualities of the candidates, - from four to six people.
There are five main directions of selection. First of all, receipt and consideration of documents of the person submitting the applications. There are directions of professional, psychological and medical selections, as well as — physical preparation.
The results of the selection will be announced by March 22, 2024.
