New "Flamingo" cruise missiles may appear in the Russian sky. Military analyst Evgeny Damantsev spoke about what means will help protect against the new threat.
Will not stand before "Geraniums"
The estimated range of the "Flamingo" is up to 3000 km when launched from an inclined rail installation. The missile uses a powerful solid propellant booster.
The open architecture makes the missile extremely vulnerable to fragmentation damage, even from the warhead of the "Geran-2" kamikaze drone.
Ways to counter
The launch can be detected by "Kanopus-V-IK" infrared monitoring satellites and other optoelectronic orbital platforms.
The "Flamingo" product really has an impressive effective reflecting surface of about 0.7 - 1 sq. m, which makes it easier to detect it against the ground by the onboard electronic warfare systems (radar) "Zaslon-AM" of MiG-31BM interceptors at a distance of 170 - 180 km and N035 "Irbis-E" radars of Su-35S fighters at a distance of up to 210 km.

Engines of the AI-25 family
Pilot and author of the Telegram channel "Voevoda Speaks" reported that "Flamingo" cruise missiles may use Soviet turbojet engines of the AI-25 family.
He drew attention to the photo collage, which shows the similarity of the elements of the "Flamingo" engine with AI-25TL/TLSH. Such units were previously installed on L-39 training aircraft, many of which have long been decommissioned. The AI-25 engine was developed in 1965 at the Zaporozhye Design Bureau "Progress".
