The second submarine of project 885M "Yasen-M" "Kazan" received the name of the legendary Soviet submarine K-403

The Russian multipurpose nuclear submarine of the 4th generation K-561 "Kazan" (the second in the series of project 885M "Yasen-M") received its name from the legendary Soviet 2nd generation submarine K-403 "Kazan" (project 667A "Navaga"), the conning tower of which became a military-historical memorial in the Victory Park of the city of Kazan.

The strategic missile submarine K-403 was built in 1971 at the Sevmash plant according to the project of the Rubin Design Bureau. "Kazan" was part of the Northern Fleet and was assigned to the port of Gadzhiyevo in the Murmansk region.

During its years of service, the submarine made many voyages to the sea, underwent several modernizations, and participated in tests of sonar systems for new generations of submarines.

After being withdrawn from the Northern Fleet, K-403 "Kazan" was sent to the Zvezdochka enterprise for disposal. The shipbuilders preserved the conning tower of the submarine and delivered it to the capital of Tatarstan in 2010.

The length of the conning tower is 22 meters, the height is 6 meters, the width is 3.5 meters, and the weight is up to 95 tons. Torpedoes, a sea mine, an AK-230 artillery installation and a Utes-M machine gun are located near the object.
