Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto may discuss the purchase of Su-35 fighters with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow from June 18 to 20. This was reported by Eurasian Times, citing sources.
The Indonesian Foreign Ministry confirmed the date of the visit. The ministry explained that the meeting will also discuss the development of bilateral cooperation.
Information about the Su-35 fighter deal appeared in 2018. It was assumed that Jakarta would purchase 11 aircraft from Russia for $1.14 billion. At the same time, Indonesia offered to transfer 50% of the contract amount in the form of its own products to Russia as payment. But due to the budget deficit, the deal was postponed.
Despite this, Indonesia has not closed the issue of purchasing the Su-35. In May 2024, the Indonesian Ambassador to Russia, Jose Tavares, stated that the agreement had not been terminated.
In January 2025, the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, confirmed that the Su-35 supply deal remains "on the table."
As a reminder, on June 11, Indonesia signed a contract with Turkey for the purchase of 48 KAAN fifth-generation fighters. The $10 billion agreement includes the production and supply of KAAN to Indonesia over 10 years, as well as the transfer of technology.
