The National Interest calls the Russian submarine project 09852 Belgorod a "monster"

Military expert Weichert: Submarine carries Poseidon nuclear torpedoes

The Russian submarine Belgorod (project 09852), carrying unmanned underwater vehicles Poseidon (with a nuclear warhead), is a new milestone in underwater warfare. This opinion was expressed by military expert Brandon J. Weichert in an article for The National Interest.

Ironically, the US and Israel pioneered the use of drones. But Washington lost its advantage by allowing competitors—Russia and China—to take the lead.

The Russian defense industry alone functions at a level that is much higher than what the defense industrial enterprises of NATO countries combined can provide. And the Belgorod submarine is proof of this, which is both a carrier of the Poseidon nuclear torpedo and a mother ship for deep-sea underwater vehicles.

The special-purpose underwater vessel is the only representative of Project 09852. According to Weichert, Belgorod is the main "monster for US Navy ships", the submarine is even longer than the Soviet Typhoon-class submarines.

K-329 Belgorod is Moscow's technological marvel, embodying Russia's ambitions to project power and protect its interests. America needs to catch up quickly to counter this threat.
