Footage of the protection device of the hull of the Russian main battle tank T-90 "Breakthrough-3" has appeared on the Web. Military analyst Yevgeny Damantsev explained the features of the layout of the combat vehicle's defense system.
He drew attention to the fact that the tank was equipped with additional improvised навесной dynamic protection (DZ) "Kontakt-1" based on 4S20 elements, placed, in turn, on the DZ 4S23 "Relikt" elements.
The anti-tandem potential of this protection will increase by 80%. Also, such a multi-tiered barrier in the safe maneuvering angles of about 30 degrees will provide partial protection against a warhead of the " ударное ядро" type.
The expert added that the "Kontakt-1" kit will block the action of the leading cumulative charge. The equivalent resistance increased to 1400-1450 mm in the upper frontal part sector and up to 1600 mm in the upper sector of the T-90M turret frontal plates.
The T-90M "Breakthrough" tank is the most advanced vehicle in the T-90 family thanks to all-round protection and an all-day, highly automated fire control system. Recently, footage of the T-90M, which survived after being blown up by mines and kamikaze drone strikes, went viral on the Web.
