The Russian Armed Forces have a sufficient number of modern military equipment capable of effectively countering Western Storm Shadow missiles. However, this requires high-quality interaction of all detection and destruction systems, according to military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
The analyst noted that it is necessary to organize regular shift duty of A-50U AWACS aircraft, capable of detecting Storm Shadow at a distance of 80-100 km using the Shmel-M radar complex and issuing target designation to tactical aviation, including Su-30SM fighters and MiG-31BM interceptors.
It is necessary to saturate the anti-aircraft missile regiments of the Russian air defense with complexes with active radar homing heads (ARH), providing interception of small-sized targets beyond the radio horizon and elements of terrain.
According to him, such anti-aircraft missiles include 9M317MA of the Buk-M3A complexes and 9M96DM of the S-350 Vityaz complexes with the Slanets family ARH.
In the case of software and hardware refinement, the 9M317MA and 9M96DM missiles will be able to receive target designation for air attack weapons approaching from behind the radio horizon from A-50U AWACS aircraft, as well as from third-party ground-based radar complexes such as Podlet-K1.
At the same time, optionally, 9M96DM anti-aircraft missiles can be integrated into the S-400 SAM system's ammunition load, dramatically increasing its potential in countering complex ballistic and aerodynamic objects.
