Footage of the BTR-80 has appeared online. It's not easy to recognize the famous Soviet armored personnel carrier by the appearance of the combat vehicle.
The reason is that the hull of the combat vehicle is completely covered with anti-cumulative screens, as well as an anti-drone net and green camouflage.
Such designs on domestic infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers are a living "verdict from below" on the entire concept of floating and air-droppable equipment, produced to the detriment of its armor.
The BTR-80 is a combat wheeled amphibious vehicle designed to transport motorized rifle units and naval infantry, as well as provide fire support on the battlefield. It was adopted into service in 1985.
The Burevestnik Central Research Institute has developed a remotely controlled combat module for the BTR-80 with automated workstations for the commander and gunner, a navigation system with a tactical terminal, and a secure communication system.
Technical characteristics of the BTR-80:
- Weight — 14.45 t
- Crew/landing party — 3/7 people
- Armament — 14.5-mm KPVT machine gun
- Ammunition load — 700 rounds
- Maximum speed — 80 km/h on the highway, 9 km/h afloat
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense showed footage of an attack on heavy equipment using FPV drones from the Rubicon advanced unmanned technology test center.
