An anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) is a set of related combat and technical means that fight against enemy air and space attack weapons. The Times of India named the five best SAMs, which also included the Russian S-400 system.
HQ-9 SAM (China)
The Chinese long-range HQ-9 SAM is designed to detect and destroy enemy aircraft, cruise missiles, air-to-surface missiles, tactical ballistic missiles and helicopters at all operating altitudes. The HQ-9 performs combat missions at any time of the day and is independent of weather conditions.
MIM-104 Patriot SAM (USA)
Patriot (MIM-104) is an all-weather, all-altitude air defense system designed to counter tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and aircraft. The SAM was developed by Raytheon and Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control specialists. It entered service with the United States in 1974. The system can detect and identify almost 100 missiles simultaneously.
Ground system SAMP-T (France, Italy)
The missile system is resistant to enemy electronic warfare equipment. It provides air defense for mechanized units and marching troops, as well as protection of critical stationary objects from air threats. It has a naval version, which is placed on French and Italian warships. It has been in service with the two countries since 2011.
Air defense system David's Sling (Israel)
The David's Sling medium- and long-range multi-layered air defense system was developed by Israeli defense contractor RAFAEL and American company Raytheon. David's Sling is the next generation of Israeli missile systems designed to replace the MIM-23 Hawk and MIM-104 Patriot in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
S-400 Triumph SAM (Russia)
Developed in the 1990s by the Almaz Central Design Bureau. The S-400 Triumph is a mobile anti-aircraft missile system. This is the fourth generation of Russian long-range SAMs. It was put into operation in 2007. It is in service with a number of countries, including Belarus, China, and India.
