The NTI Competence Center "Digital Materials Science: New Materials and Substances" at Bauman Moscow State Technical University discussed the best materials for manufacturing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). These include aluminum, titanium alloys, and composite polymers.
Composite polymers are the most popular in the production of drones. A competent combination of their initial components changes the characteristics of the UAV.
Using a composite polymer based on a carbon filler and an epoxy matrix, you can obtain a material with a large margin of safety. This will increase the payload weight of the UAV and its service life.
By adding aramid fibers, the drone will be distinguished by its strength and heat resistance. If thermoplastic materials are included in the epoxy matrix, a hybrid material is obtained. It will allow the use of the drone in extreme conditions of the Far North.
At the same time, it is necessary to maintain the basic properties of drones. These include lightness, structural strength and communication stability.
For example, the weight of a UAV can be reduced by improving the battery design or using a hydrogen engine. In turn, the use of hydrogen as fuel requires high-pressure cylinders up to 800 atm.
Along with new composite polymers, titanium alloys, titanium and aluminum are still used in the production of drones. Titanium is highly durable and lightweight. Aluminum also has a light weight, is corrosion resistant and easy to process.
Earlier www1.ru reported that "Izhevsk Unmanned Systems" in 2025 will increase the production of promising UAVs.
