The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the exercises of the Russian Navy in the Baltic. Corvettes “Boiky” and “Soobrazitelny” performed a series of combat training missions to detect and neutralize a mock submarine. The Baltic Fleet remains a cornerstone of the defense strategy in the region, which the West calls “NATO internal waters” because of the member countries of the alliance located here. Using Ka-27PL anti-submarine helicopters of the naval aviation of the fleet, the corvettes diligently searched for a model. After confirming the coordinates, the crews exchanged data and simulated a torpedo attack on an underwater target.

Operating in the Baltic Sea, this fleet is in close proximity to NATO member countries such as Poland, Germany and the Baltic States. Its location gives Russia a critical advantage in protecting its western borders and influencing one of the most geopolitically sensitive regions in Europe. Thanks to its modern surface ships, submarines and coastal defense systems, the Baltic Fleet can control vital sea lanes and airspace.
The corvette “Boiky” belongs to Project 20380. The ship was built at the “Severnaya Verf” shipyard. Its home port is Baltiysk. The corvette has been part of the Baltic Fleet since 2013.
It is armed with Uran anti-ship cruise missiles, the Redut anti-aircraft missile system (SAM), and Igla and Verba man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems.
The corvette “Soobrazitelny” (Project 20380) was commissioned in 2011. The ship carries the same weapons as the “Boiky”.
