Russia and the United States are discussing joint projects in the data center sector, including the use of Russian nuclear power plant capacities. This was stated by Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), at the "Russian Energy Week — 2026" forum.

According to him, the parties already have a clear list of projects, and work is being carried out with the participation of a number of Russian companies. Dmitriev did not disclose details or timelines. He noted a great synergistic effect between Moscow and Washington in the Arctic, LNG, and other energy projects.

Data centers for artificial intelligence require gigawatts of stable power, and nuclear power plants provide cheap, emission-free generation. For the US, this means access to energy; for Russia, it means loading nuclear power plants and investments. If negotiations lead to contracts, the data center market will gain a new player with its own power source. For now, however, this is just a list of projects, not signed agreements.
