Russia is offering India to adapt the T-14 Armata tank to the requirements of the local army, including additional means of combating drones and expanding ammunition capabilities. The Indian publication IDRW reported on the new proposal option.

The proposal is aimed at the Indian Next Generation Main Battle Tank (NGMBT) program, under which the army is looking for a replacement for aging T-72 tanks. According to IDRW, the need exceeds 1,700 vehicles. For such an order, not only combat characteristics are important, but also cost, the share of local production, and the ability to use Indian components.
According to IDRW, the installation of electronic warfare systems for suppressing drones and physical interception systems for attacking targets is being considered. They should complement the standard active protection system.
Another area of refinement is an increase in ammunition load and the ability to accommodate shells longer than a meter. IDRW does not specify how much additional ammunition the tank will be able to carry or whether this will require changes to the turret design or loading mechanism.
The question of the possibility of installing the Indian DATRAN-1500HP engine on the T-14 tank was considered back in July 2025. Uralvagonzavod expressed its readiness to jointly refine and integrate this engine into the Russian tank.
