Gravity on the Moon is 6 times weaker than on Earth, so moving by jumping "sparrow-like" will be more convenient than walking or running. This was stated by Vladimir Surdin, senior researcher at the P. K. Sternberg State Astronomical Institute (GAISH).

A completely special gait is developed there. American astronauts tried walking from foot to foot and sparrow-like. It turned out that it was convenient.
The lunar surface is covered with regolith — a loose, heterogeneous surface layer of dust, stones, and rock fragments. Due to the viscosity of the soil, it is difficult to run on it, Surdin added.
The astronomer did not rule out that special conditions for movement will be created at the future lunar base. For this, rubber mats can be laid so that the astronaut can push off the surface and move.
The development of projects for the study and exploration of Lena depends on the emergence of new technologies and state support, Surdin believes. The USA, China, and the UAE have already joined this race, for whom leadership in space is a matter of prestige, he concluded.
In June 2026, samples from the far side of the Moon arrived at IKI RAS — 1 g of regolith and 0.5 g of deep substances. The soil was delivered by the Chinese Chang'e-6 mission. Russian specialists are preparing equipment for research.
