Russia needs to support the operation and production of Kazan-made Tu-214 liners, despite the parallel development of the MC-21 and SJ-100 programs. The aircraft will still be in demand by civil airlines, Rostec stated.
The state corporation noted that in 2022, the Tu-214 was the only domestic aircraft in a high degree of readiness.
Despite its Soviet "roots", the aircraft has its strengths: it is mass-produced, reliable, and has a good operational history. We are confident that civil airlines will also have a need for it.
However, there is a hitch with the production rates of the Tu-214, Oleg Smirnov, Honored Pilot of the USSR, explained to "Pervy Tekhnichesky". The fact is that the Kazan Aircraft Plant does not have the ability to independently produce all the necessary elements.
Although the aircraft may be structurally ready and have a certificate, it is difficult to increase the assembly rate without stable suppliers.
