Anti-drone nets were spotted on the flagship of the Caspian Flotilla — RK "Tatarstan" of Project 11661K. Footage was published on October 6 by the Telegram channel "Voenny Osvedomitel": it shows a mesh structure installed around part of the ship's superstructure. According to the channel, "almost all Navy fleets are slowly starting to craft and protect their ships from enemy drones".

No confirmation from the Russian Ministry of Defence or the Navy command about the modernization has been found, so it is too early to talk about the standard equipment of the "Tatarstan". Nevertheless, the very fact of the appearance of such structures on various ships of the Russian fleet has been recorded earlier: nets were noticed on the MRK "Orekhovo-Zuevo" of Project 21631 and nuclear submarines of the "Borey" project.

The meaning of this solution differs from the operation of EW or shipborne air defense systems. The net creates a physical barrier between a small drone and the protected elements of the ship. At the same time, its effectiveness, resistance to specific types of UAVs, and impact on ship operation depend on the design and conditions of use.

In parallel, active countermeasures against drones are also appearing on Navy ships. In July, on the frigate "Neustrashimy", and then on the cruiser "Varyag", corvette "Steregushchy" and large anti-submarine ship "Udaloy", the installation of "Peroed-M" EW systems, designed to disable FPV drones, was reported. The day before, we also talked about another protection scheme — on the tanker "Volgoneft-111", a combination of mesh shelter and EW means, as well as firing points, were noticed.
