The Indian Air Force continues to support its fleet of heavy transport aircraft Il-76, despite its age and plans for its replacement. According to IDRW, the Indian Air Force is purchasing additional spare parts for the aircraft and is also considering upgrading their navigation equipment.

One of the considered areas for upgrade is GPS receivers and related navigation subsystems.

This is an attempt to maintain the operational capabilities of old transport aircraft by upgrading individual onboard systems, while India simultaneously considers options to replace the existing fleet with more modern transport aircraft.

At the same time, the Indian Air Force continues to search for components for the Il-76. The published tender data mentions, in particular, shock absorbers and magnetic tape, but the full technical list of requirements is available in the procurement documentation. 

The purchase of spare parts and the upgrade of individual systems are taking place against the backdrop of India's plans to replace its existing fleet of military transport aircraft. Il-76s remain part of the existing fleet, but India is already considering more modern aircraft to replace the Soviet transport aircraft.
