KAMAZ plans to start serial production of tourist buses in 2027, but the KAMAZ-52229 remains in the testing phase. This was announced by the company's CEO, Sergey Kogogin, on the sidelines of the Comtrans commercial vehicle exhibition in Kazan. According to him, the plan for launching into series production remains, but final decisions will be made based on the test results.

The project has already moved beyond a single prototype: in 2026, a pilot production batch of KAMAZ-52229 was assembled. In December 2025, Kogogin spoke about plans to release it in the first half of 2026 and deliver the first batch to Gazprom.

The KAMAZ-52229 belongs to the A5 generation and is designed to run on compressed natural gas. The bus received a KAMAZ gas engine with a power of 235 kW and a robotic gearbox. Gas cylinders with a total volume of 1110 liters provide a range of at least 500 km.

The model was first shown at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum in 2025. The interior features passenger service units, USB connectors, climate control, a driver assistance system, a kitchen unit with a refrigerator, and a toilet; a sleeping place is provided for the driver.
