India's prospective Future Ready Combat Vehicle (FRCV) has been preliminarily estimated at approximately $3.95 million per vehicle — almost half the unit cost of a large T-90S order from 2019. The calculation was provided by IDRW, dividing the estimated program cost of $7 billion by the planned 1770 vehicles. It should be noted that these figures cannot be considered the prices of finished tanks.

The official price of the FRCV has not yet been determined. The program received approval from the Indian Defence Acquisition Council in September 2024, and in 2025, Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited announced a search for a technological partner to develop the combat vehicle. 

For comparison, IDRW used India's 2019 order for 464 T-90S tanks. The contract value was about $3.12 billion, which translates to approximately $6.72 million per vehicle. However, this amount included not only the tanks themselves: about $1.2 billion was for technology transfer by Russian enterprises, so mechanically comparing the two figures as prices of finished combat vehicles is incorrect.

The FRCV is intended to replace the aging T-72 fleet and should be developed as the prospective main battle tank of the Indian army. Program documents indicate a need for approximately 1770 vehicles, which are expected to be purchased in stages. At the same time, India continues to operate and modernize the T-90S.
