The Mir payment system has introduced the ability to pay for purchases with smartwatches. Now, it's enough to activate the screen by rotating your wrist and bring the device to the terminal — there's no need to take out your bank card or smartphone.

The feature works via Mir Pay and is currently only available on Huawei Watch 5 and Huawei Watch Ultimate 2 with HarmonyOS 5.0 and newer. These models are also listed on the official service support page.

To add a card, the watch must be connected to Huawei Health, Bluetooth enabled, and then a new device selected in Mir Pay. The feature appeared in version 1.64.5.350 of the application, released on September 2. Other smartwatch models are not yet supported by the service.

For payment itself, a constant internet connection is not required. Mir Pay pre-saves encrypted payment keys on the device, so several operations can be performed offline. However, their number is limited — periodically, the watch will still need to go online and download new data.

Payment is available to cardholders of banks connected to Mir Pay. NSPK announced smartwatch support back in June at its technology conference, and now the feature has moved from plans to a full launch. The list of compatible devices is promised to be expanded in the future.
