Russian ship repair has encountered a problem that cannot be solved by simply replacing spare parts. The country practically lacks domestic main engines with a power output of 500 to 1500 kW, said Alexey Solovyov, acting director of the Upper Volga branch of RKO.

According to him, over the past 15–17 years, a large number of Russian vessels have received imported power plants and electrical equipment. Now, as their service life expires, there is a need for their replacement.

Previously, high-speed vessels used a relatively standard set of foreign engines from MAN and Wartsila. Now, Chinese Weichai, Hinan, and various modifications have been added, leading to a loss of unification.

At the same time, the construction of new ships in Russia costs  three times more than in China due to a catastrophic lag in automation and robotization.
