The State Research and Design Institute of the Rare Metal Industry (AO "Giredmet", part of the Chemical-Technological Cluster of Rosatom's Scientific Division) will organize pilot production of titanium sponge (technical metal up to 99.9% purity, which serves as raw material for the production of titanium ingots and alloys) in India. A corresponding contract was signed with Alt Metals on the sidelines of the Innoprom exhibition in New Delhi.

Andrey Goliney, Director of the Chemical-Technological Block of Rosatom's Scientific Division, stated that at the first stage, specialists will study the customer's raw materials. Then they will supply laboratory equipment for titanium sponge production, provide supervision of its installation, carry out commissioning, and train personnel.

The planned capacity of the future production is 1000 tons per year. Titanium sponge is used in aviation and space technology, shipbuilding, chemical and oil and gas industries, and medicine.

AO "Giredmet" is Rosatom's leading research institute in materials science. The enterprise creates new materials based on rare metals, their alloys, and nanotechnologies. The institute's developments are also used to enhance the competitiveness of the economy and strengthen Russia's strategic security.
