Negotiations between Russia and China on the construction of "Power of Siberia-2" have once again reached an impasse. The parties failed to bridge the huge gap in expectations for the price of Russian gas, the authoritative South China Morning Post reported.

According to the source, China expects to receive gas at approximately $50 per 1,000 m³ – comparable to the subsidized tariff for Russian households. As a compromise, China is considering an internal industrial price of about $120–130.

The Russian side proceeds from a different benchmark – about $250–260 per 1,000 m³, which China already pays for gas under the existing "Power of Siberia-1".

Disagreements persist despite plans to build a new gas pipeline with a capacity of 50 billion m³ per year. The project, about 2,600 km long, is to pass through Mongolia and connect the Chinese market with Yamal's gas resources.

In June, Russian President's Special Representative Boris Titov stated that the issue with the "Power of Siberia-2" gas pipeline lies in technical aspects, not in the gas price.
