The new Il-114-300 turboprop aircraft may turn out to be too expensive for some regional airlines that still operate An-24 and An-26. Aviation blogger SkyExpert explained the economics of flights.
According to him, the main problem is not fuel consumption, but the lease payment. With a base cost of the Il-114-300 at 2 billion rubles and a preferential rate of even 2%, the monthly payment could be around 20 million rubles over 10 years.
To cover payments, the aircraft needs to significantly increase its utilization frequency, SkyExpert believes.
The aircraft will have to spend at least 250 hours in the air with full load and an average ticket price of 15 thousand rubles on 3-hour flights. None of the ordinary An-24 operators can increase their flight time by 2.5 times without creating serious risks for themselves and others.
It should be noted that the aviation expert provided calculations based on a cost of 2 billion rubles per aircraft. However, it is already known that the official price is 4 billion rubles for the first three liners, and 2.6 billion for subsequent ones.
Airlines themselves openly questioned the efficiency of the Il-114-300 on unpaved runways due to the excessively low position of the TV7-117ST-01 turboprop engines. This problem has already begun to be addressed.
