Russian engineers have developed a set of attachments to convert any type of drone into a "Doomsday" drone to mitigate the consequences of a nuclear strike. This was announced by Dmitry Kuzyakin, General Designer of the Center for Integrated Unmanned Solutions (TsKBR).
According to him, TsKBR continues to work on the "Khrust" program. However, it had one important limitation – scalability.
It was difficult for units of the Russian army, as well as the Ministry of Emergency Situations, to purchase a separate complex for specific tasks and keep it for a special day.
Given this, the "Doomsday" complex was made into a portable set of attachments compatible with any drone, including "Molniya," "Geran," and "Banderol." It includes a small board and firmware, Kuzyakin added.
The "Khrust" program is aimed at using unmanned technologies in conditions of disasters and man-made emergencies. Drones can be used in cases of toxic agent releases, attacks using chemical warfare agents, biological and nuclear hazards.
The re-purposed drone allows for remote sensing of the territory and infrastructure facilities. Tests of the "Doomsday" drone itself and the development of scenarios for its use have already taken place at a test site in Zhukovsky. There are no similar products in other countries, Kuzyakin concluded.
