The repair of the icebreaker "Admiral Makarov" was complicated by a fire that occurred on September 5 in the ship's hold in Kronstadt. The fire spread over 80 square meters and was fully extinguished only four hours later, at 6:30 PM.

The icebreaker was supposed to remain under repair until the end of the year. This is due to the fact that "Rosmorport" allocated almost 165 million rubles for the restoration of auxiliary engines and equipment.

The fire started around 2:20 PM at the pier of the Kronstadt Marine Plant. 52 people and 10 units of equipment were involved in extinguishing it. By 4:31 PM, the open burning was eliminated, after which firefighters continued to douse the structures. There were no casualties. The cause of the fire and possible damage to the ship have not yet been disclosed.

The Project R-1039 vessel was built in 1975. Its power plant includes nine main diesel engines with a total capacity of about 30.5 MW, and the icebreaker is capable of breaking ice up to 1.5 meters thick at a speed of 2 knots.

After the completion of repairs, the "Admiral Makarov" was planned to be included in the icebreaker group of the Northwestern Basin Branch for escorting vessels to the ports of the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland during winter navigation. It is not yet known whether the September fire will affect these plans.
