Engineer Alexey Abramov from Nizhny Novgorod has developed an unusual rotary internal combustion engine that does not operate on the classic four-stroke cycle. Its design divides the cycle into three stages – intake, power stroke, and exhaust.

Instead of pistons, the engine uses a circular disc-rotor with triangular working chambers. When such a chamber aligns with the combustion chamber, the fuel-air mixture ignites. The pressure of the combustion products acts on the inclined wall of the recess and directly rotates the rotor.

A separate exhaust chamber solves the problem of removing exhaust gases. For this, the designer added an ejector, which creates a vacuum using compressed air. The air accumulates in the receiver after an electrically driven compressor.

The scheme allows several rotors to be placed on one shaft and offset relative to each other. The patent states that a variant with three working chambers on the rotor and two combustion chambers can provide six power strokes per revolution.

Another feature of the project is a starter-generator on the engine shaft. It is proposed to use it not only for starting but also for generating electricity in hybrid cars.
