Kazan has become the first city where the new low-floor tram 71-711 is undergoing trial operation. The car was manufactured at the Chelyabinsk enterprise "Lekat" in partnership with the Ust-Katav Car-building Plant and is assembled entirely from domestic components, the Kazan City Hall reported. The first route was No. 7.

The tram accommodates up to 120 passengers, with 32 seating places. The interior is equipped with air conditioning, USB connectors, video surveillance, and multimedia screens. The middle door has a ramp, and there are call buttons inside and outside for passengers with limited mobility. Four asynchronous traction motors of Russian assembly allow saving up to 30% of electricity. The expected cost of the car is about 65 million rubles including VAT, which is approximately a quarter lower than analogues.

Within a month, "Metroelektrotrans" specialists will evaluate the operational characteristics. Simultaneously, the KAMAZ 62825 trolleybus with an autonomous range of up to 30 km has been launched on routes No. 1, No. 5, and No. 8. Passengers can leave feedback via QR codes in the cabins. Kazan's fleet includes 107 trams and 192 trolleybuses, some of which have already exhausted their service life and require replacement.
