The outdated fleet of Soviet An-32 transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force is unlikely to disappear immediately after the adoption of new medium transport aircraft (MTA). This was reported by the IDRW agency.

A significant number of modernized An-32s may remain in service until the 2040s.

India has also invested heavily in extending the aircraft's service life and improving their capabilities through modernization.

Recall that India officially signed a contract for the purchase of An-32 aircraft in 1984. In total, up to 123 aircraft were delivered to the republic at an average base cost of $15 million per aircraft. The total value of the deal could have reached $1.6 billion.

In parallel, India plans to purchase new military transport aircraft for $10 billion. The main candidates are the American C-130J Super Hercules and the Brazilian KC-390 Millennium; Russia with the Il-76MD-90A is not on this list.
