Miniature TinySA Ultra spectrum analyzers have been spotted on Russian Gerbera air defense decoy drones. Analysts from "Voennaya Khronika" explained how this device works.
The device connects to a free port of the mesh modem and is used to register activity in the radio frequency range during flight.
The meaning of the solution is quite obvious – to get the cheapest possible flying radio environment analyzer without creating a separate specialized reconnaissance UAV.
Analysts clarified that in this configuration, the Gerbera will be able to collect data on radio frequency activity in the area of application and record the operation of electronic warfare systems.
The TinySA Ultra costs about a hundred dollars, and the integration itself does not require complex platform modifications. As a result, even the loss of the device does not make such reconnaissance excessively expensive.
Previously, the reconnaissance drone began to be used as a "mother" for small drones. After dropping, the Gerbera acts as a flying repeater, providing video signal transmission. A special coating makes the UAV invisible to radars of anti-aircraft systems.
