The Russian Il-276 may get a second chance to participate in the Indian medium military transport aircraft program. However, the main issue for the potential customer may not be the airframe itself, but the powerplant – the PD-14M with a FADEC digital control system, IDRW agency reported.

The Il-276 is designed to carry about 20 tons of cargo and should operate from airfields of various levels of preparation. However, the aircraft remains a project, and there is no flight prototype in its final configuration. Now, Russia will have to show India not only the characteristics of the future machine but also the readiness of its engine.

The PD-14 has been associated with the Il-276 project since the early stages of development, but the issue of a ready configuration with FADEC for this aircraft still requires confirmation.

In December 2025, it became known that the Ulyanovsk "Aviastar" intended to build Il-276 and Il-100 "Slon". The enterprise will receive 48 billion rubles for re-equipment.

Aviation expert Roman Gusarov explained to "Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" that too many things must come together for serial production. Therefore, one should not hope for quick production.
