Tula State University (TulSU) has received a patent for a utility model of a device for metal forming using electrodynamic action. The development is intended for cutting, punching, bending, and drawing.

The device consists of two plates connected by uprights. A die and an ejector are fixed on the lower plate, and an electrodynamic drive on the upper one. Inside the unit, there is a sealed chamber with liquid that transmits force to the working tool.

A feature of the design is that the area of the chamber on the pusher side is larger than on the punch side. Thanks to this, the working stroke of the tool increases, and the unit can perform more operations. The development is an alternative to stamping hammers and hydraulic presses due to the electrodynamic drive. Unlike them, the unit does not require an oil station and is easier to maintain.

Earlier, TulSU scientists patented a device for manufacturing shells with longitudinal corrugations — it allows obtaining thin-walled structures in one working stroke of the punch along the entire length of the part, which simplifies production and increases the accuracy of finished products.
