The A.I. Mikoyan Design Bureau, after a possible merger with other design teams, may retain its separate name, but will effectively act as an auxiliary unit. This was stated to "Pervy Tekhnichesky" by Nikolai Chikunov, a Category I design engineer at the Design Bureau.

According to him, in such a case, the main part of promising projects may be transferred to other units.

MiG will be given, so to speak, on a residual basis, as is already happening now.

Chikunov believes that the problem lies not only in the reduction of specialists but also in the decrease of opportunities to independently determine design directions.

According to him, as a result of the reorganization, some units may formally remain under the MiG brand, but key decisions will be made within a single structure.

Some units will exist under the Sukhoi, MiG brands purely nominally.

Earlier, Chikunov said that if the Mikoyan bureau merges with Sukhoi, the MiG school could lose a large number of engineers.
