A new scam scheme has emerged in Russia, targeting taxi drivers. Criminals place an order, promise to pay for the trip by bank transfer, and then, under various pretexts, extort bank details and an SMS code. The Ministry of Internal Affairs warns that this way, attackers gain access to the account and steal money.
Scammers place a taxi order and indicate in the comments that the trip will be paid for by bank card number. After that, they contact the driver and ask for card details and the SMS code.
Having received this information, the scammers log into the banking application and steal money from the account, warned the Department for Organizing the Fight against Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Attackers use a similar scheme not only against taxi drivers but also against other service sector workers.
Experts once again reminded that no one should be given a bank card number, CVC code, or personal data.
